Course overview

This is an online module for Registered Nurses (RN) using the Advocating for Education and Quality Improvement (A-EQUIP) model of supervision, which has been developed by NHS England and comprises four distinct functions: clinical supervision; personal action for quality improvement; education and development; and monitoring and evaluation.

 

The core concepts and themes of the course include:  

•     A deeper understanding of the PNA Role

•     National drivers and the background of PNA role development

•     Restorative Clinical Supervision

•     PNA support

•     Developing Communities of practice and Multi-professional working

•     Quality improvement, the A-EQUIP model and Change management.

•     Evidence-based knowledge of the development of enhancement of care

•     Organisational culture, including Ethics, Law, Moral injury and distress.

•     Workforce issues and retention

•     Leadership styles, conflict resolution and compassionate leadership

•     Essentials of Mental Health First Aid to recognise signs of anxiety and distress in staff

•     Academic and communication skills, including presentation skills

 

In order to participate in the module, you will need:

•     Have an allocated Professional Nurse Advocate assessor in practice for the duration of the module.

•     Work in a patient-facing role.

•     Have line manager approval to be released to meet module requirements and support in practice (including designated hours acting in the capacity of PNA).

 

Taught Dates - 27 April, 11 May, 26 May, 8 June, 22 June and 29 June, additionally learners will need to complete asynchronous activities in the weeks commencing - 4 May, 18 May, 1 June, 15 June.

Requirements for students - 

Must be a minimum Band 5 nurse registered with the NMC

Have an allocated Professional Nurse Advocate assessor in practice for the duration of the module. 

Must be working in a patient-facing role

Have line manager agreement for support in practice to develop in the PNA role over the course of the module
