Course overview

This module is for anyone working in health and social care where leadership or management forms part of their role, or those aspiring to become a leader within their organisation.


Module Summary

This module, co-delivered between BNU and Health Innovation Oxford and Thames Valley, enables learners to independently lead and execute an impactful project within their professional context.  It builds expertise in project management, data analysis, and leadership while fostering innovation in healthcare practices.


Content

The course will utilise online and in-person lectures over 5 weeks, featuring workshops and discussion forums to put theory into practice.

  • Project Management
  • Leadership and management styles and cultures
  • Managing self and people, including EDI
  • The NHS strategic context for innovation and change, including strategic drivers and facilitators of change in healthcare
  • PESTEL model (Political, Economic, Socio-cultural, Technological, Environment, Legal influences)
  • Research methods and Improvement science methodologies and theories
  • Governance frameworks and ethical considerations
  • Understanding organisational complexity
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Collection and analysis of data/informaton
  • Evaluating impact, sustainability and knowledge exchange

This module runs once every week for 5 weeks:

40-credit module / Level 7 - submission in March 2026

  • 4000 word journal article
  • Conference poster presentation
