The aim of this short course is to prepare students to APEL onto a programme of study. Students are required to demonstrate they have sufficient academic skills in order to fulfil the APEL requirements of the University. Academic skills will be formatively assessed at the beginning of the module and developed through a variety of teaching strategies. The principles of research knowledge will be examined and students will be supported to use research effectively within their written work.
Students will be encouraged to reflect upon their learning from a variety of experiences and document these experiences in an academic piece of work (portfolio). The module will enable students to develop their reflective skills to deepen their clinical, professional and academic knowledge. Using a model of reflection students will consider how didactic and experiential learning has developed their practice. Students will apply this theory to practice and from this analysis identify gaps in knowledge or experience which can then be addressed in their personal development plan (PDP) in the future.
